How do you choose the best brows for your face shape?
At some point in your life, whether it be from reading a magazine, at a makeup counter or at the hairdressers, you will have heard someone, somewhere, discuss face shapes. There are, believe it or not, 7 typical face shapes. Did you know you can use the shape, height and volume of your brows to make your face appear longer, shorter, smoother or more angular, depending on your preference?
Finding Your Face Shape
Typically, there are 7 different face shapes and they all have different characteristics.
1. Rectangular : Wide at the forehead, long with an angular jaw.
2. Heart : Wide at the forehead, with a narrow sometimes pointy chin.
3. Square : Wide at the forehead, shorter in length than Rectangular with an angular jaw.
4. Oval : The perfect face shape, smooth, in proportion and can work with virtually any brow style.
5. Round : Like square but less angular.
6. Triangle : Narrow at the forehead and wider at the jaw.
7. Diamond : Narrow at the forehead and chin with more angular features.
As mentioned before, OVAL is the most desirable face shape as it is even and in proportion so this is the goal when designing brows.
How I Choose The Best Brows For Your Face Shape
Choosing the best brows for your face shape involves analysing your face and natural brow shape and deciding what I think we need to do to achieve not only more symmetry, but also to make your face appear more oval. Oval is the most desirable of the face shapes as it’s smooth and more in proportion than any of the other face shapes.
Creating softer curves in the brow for faces that are naturally more angular such as Square, Rectangular, Triangular or Diamond will soften facial angles and create a softer more feminine look.
Making small but crucial adjustments to the arch of the brow for Round, Square or Triangular face shapes will make the face appear longer and draw the eye away from the jawline.
In contrast, creating smoother brows on faces that are long will make the face appear shorter and more in proportion. Clever eh?
GOAL – To make the face appear shorter and soften angles at the forehead and jawline.
REMEDY – If you have a rectangular face shape, a smooth, straighter brow with a soft curved arch creates the best brows for your face shape.
GOAL – To soften the angles of the face with curves and height at the arch.
REMEDY – If you have a heart shaped face, making subtle adjustments to your arch to create length on the face and making the wider part of the face (the forehead) appear narrower creates the best brows for your face shape.
GOAL – To soften jawline and make face appear longer and more slender.
REMEDY – If you have a square face shape, your strong jawline is a prominent feature so adding volume to your brows or stronger arches will balance your features and create the best brows for your face shape.
The perfect face shape – this is the face shape we are aiming for when we design your brows.
By making small adjustments to your brow design, we can make your otherwise face shape appear more Oval.
GOAL – To lengthen the face and make it look appear less round.
REMEDY – If you have a round face shape, adding height to your arches will create the best brows for your face shape by drawing the eye up and down the face instead of across.
GOAL – To make the face appear narrower at the jaw.
REMEDY – If you have a triangular face shape, adding height to the arch and thickening the brow creates more proportion and will create the best brows for your face shape. Keeping the arch smooth will also balance the angular features in a triangular face shape.
GOAL – To soften angles in the shape and make the widest part of the face appear slimmer
REMEDY – If you have a diamond face shape, adding fullness and soft arches ill will create the best brows for your face shape.
Can you see how these subtle changes make all the difference to these beautiful women’s faces? It just proves further how great brows can make all the difference!
