MEDICAL TATTOO Aftercare

Proper care following your treatment is necessary to achieve the best results.

Please review the following instructions and refer to them as necessary.

If during the healing process, you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me.

WEEK 1

  • Remove the dressing after 24 hours.
  • Gently wash and dry the area.
  • Replace with the new dressing provided.
  • You can shower, but be cautious to prevent the dressing from getting too wet, as it might peel off prematurely.

WEEK 2

  • After 1 week, you may remove the dressing
  • Clean the area gently and apply the balm provided every morning and evening.
  • Keep the area dry whilst healing.
  • Do not do any exercise, running or anything that causes excessive sweating.
  • This includes using the gym, swimming pools, hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
  • Do not pick, peel, scratch or rub the area.  Allow any crusting to flake away by itself.
  • Finally, do not expose healing skin to direct sun or have any tanning treatments (including self tanning) until fully healed.

THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Healing can be prolonged if your immune system is compromised, if you are generally stressed and by poor diet. Please let me know if you are ill for more than a few days during the healing period so I can allow more time between your initial procedure and your follow up.
  • Keep in mind that in many cases, during the aftercare period, if you have had  colour implanted (areola/scar camouflage), some unevenness of colour is to be expected
  • Any uneveness can be addressed at further appointments.

LONG TERM CARE:

  • Use a moisturiser/body cream with built in SPF to protect the treated area daily.
  • Use a good sunscreen in hot weather, ideally factor 50 . Sun exposure will fade your results prematurely.
  • If you are planning a laser procedure or an MRI scan, please tell the technician that you have a medical tattoo and it’s location.
  • Please inform the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you will not be eligible to give blood for 4 months.
